One of the most interesting opportunities offered by additive technologies is given by the possibility of creating systems composed of multiple materials, with progressive transitions from one alloy to another, rather than with a clear transition. This series of new strategies has so far been investigated only at the level of fundamental studies, still very far from real applications in most of the cases. The recent introduction on the market of systems suitable for multi-material printing now opens up new concrete possibilities, offering several new opportunities but also many aspects to take into consideration.

Una delle più interessanti opportunità offerte dalle tecnologie additive è data dalla teorica possibilità di creare sistemi composti da più materiali, con transizioni progressive da una lega all’altra, piuttosto che con un passaggio netto. Questa serie di nuove strategie è stata fino ad ora indagata solo a livello di studi fondamentali, ancora molto lontani da applicazioni reali nella maggior parte dei casi. La recente introduzione sul mercato di sistemi adatti alla stampa multi-materiale, apre invece ora nuove possibilità concrete, offrendo diverse nuove opportunità ma anche tanti aspetti da tenere in considerazione.
